Congratulations to Eien McGee for selection to USA Swimming's 2014 Diversity Select Camp! Eien was selected along with 35 other top athletes around the country (18 boys and 18 girls ages 14-16) to participate in a three-day camp this spring at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. The camp program includes pool training, motivational/education sessions and team-building activities. Qualifying for any USA Swimming camp is an achievement unto itself, being selected is quite an honor. Way to go, Eien!
Sunkist WINS the 2014 short course state championships! Hosted by Shockwave at the new $12m Tupelo Aquatic Center, the win marks the first team title for Sunkist since 2001 and the 31st state championship overall. Sunkist dominated the meet from start to finish, winning 42 of the 96 individual events and 6 of 16 relay events. Sunkist 8&unders rock MSI's annual spring developmental meet! Known as 8&under State, the meet was hosted by Sunkist and showcased the future of Mississippi Swimming with 173 of the top 8&under swimmers participating and representing all 12 teams across the state. Swimmers competed for medals (First through 8th place) and ribbons (9th through 16th place), divided up into age groups 8 year-olds, 7 year-olds and 6&unders. Kate Murphy qualifies and competes against top swimmers in the world at Arena Grand Prix Series event in Orlando. The first Sunkist swimmer to participate in a Grand Prix meet, Kate swam 4 events long course and improved her placing in all 4 events with 2 personal best times. Sunkist swims awesome at Auburn! Over 1,000 swimmers competed at the Ralph Crocker Classic in a very fast prelim/final meet held on the campus of Auburn University. Sunkist swimmers broke 2 state records, 7 team records and achieved many time standard cuts. Swimmers were treated to see some super fast swims by a few Auburn college and post-grad swimmers, and especially priviledged to watch one brave swimmer who gave everything she had every time in the water, racing full speed to each wall—despite being blind. T’was a record setting Sprint To Christmas with 245 swimmers participating in the first three day format of the popular Sunkist holiday meet. The festivities started off with spirited cheers and fast swims as swimmers of all ages competed in Open 25s. Over 100 Sunkist swimmers participated in this year’s Sunkist Swim-a-thon for a fun night of swimming to raise funds for the team. Swimmers in every group did their part to swim as many laps as they could in a two hour period, swimming over 400,000 yards during the event—which equals 227 miles! Sunkist feasts on fast swims at the BSL Cranberry Classic held in Birmingham at the new Crossplex natatorium. Birmingham Swim League hosted its largest meet in history with over 600 swimmers participating from all over the southeast.
